Bird Food (European Goldfinch Carduelis)

In the winter bird food harder to come and cart it closer to homes. Especially when food is hung. A reader of this column sent me this perfect picture of one of our most colorful songbirds: the putter or chaffinch. The head is red, white, black and the wings are black with bright yellow. The putter is related to the finch. Finches are seed eaters and therefore have a strong wide mouth. The putter is as good on the picture to see a rather long beak, which is not as wide as other finches. This is useful between the spines of the thistle flower seeds to fish, because that is their favorite diet. In summer, they eat insects and like most songbirds are especially their young with insects reared.

Particular
In most species only the male sings. When the putter gently sings the female, only slightly less extensive. Because they look nice and cozy because of the singing of both sexes, the putter also known as cage birds kept. In appearance the sexes differ little. Allen is the red ring around the beak of the female smaller than the male and keep at it for the purpose.

Where
The goldfinch is in Europe, Asia and North Africa. Usually it is a state bird. Only the northern draw animals in the winter to the south. Therefore, in our country in the winter anymore putter, who were mostly in groups roam. The Netherlands is a relatively common breeding bird putter. Also in Haarlemmermeer, the kind found in many gardens, especially in the winter and he broods in the Heimanshof.
